November 2024
Dr. Ruan presented the project regulation of non-sense mediated RNA decay in ALD at the Johns Hopkins DELTA Center Symposium on Alcohol-associated Hepatitis: Pathogenesis, Treatment, and Challenges.
October 2024
The second research manuscript of Ruan Lab is accepted by IJMS (First Author, Dr. Shohei Takaoka). We utilized an unique intron-exon RNA-seq pipeline to analyze gene expression data representing early and late stage of fatty liver diseases. We provided evidence that loss of NMD is a hallmark of severe fatty liver diseases.

Dr. Ruan presented the project non-sense mediated RNA decay in the CALS monthly seminar series.
July 2024
The Ruan Lab received the Grant acceleration award from JHU school of medicine.
June 2024
The Ruan Lab presented their work on human-specific regulation of fatty acid catabolism, hLMR1-cholesterol metabolism and non-sense mediated RNA decay in the liver at the 2024 CADA Annual Meeting at Orlando, FL.
March 26, 2024
Dr. Marcos Jaso Vera was awarded with the American Heart Association Fellowship to Promote Diversity in Science. We thank AHA so much for the continued support!
February, 2024
Dr. Ruan served as a Reviewer for AHA, Second Century Early Faculty Independence Award Committee #1.
January 31, 2024
Dr. Ruan was selected as winner of the W. Leigh Thompson Excellence in Research – Faculty Award from JHU Department of Medicine. Dr. Ruan will present in person at the 2024 DOM/WSE Research Retreat during the Abstract Award Presentations, on Friday, February 9, in the Tilghman Auditorium.
January 30, 2024
The first research manuscript of Ruan Lab is accepted by Human Genetics (First Author, Dr. Jaso Vera). We provided the first example of a non-coding genetic variant contribute to blood lipids by regulating the human liver-specific gene, hLMR1. We thank Dr. Rebecca Andersen for the invitation and help in the process.
November 8, 2023
We received the Upf2 flox mice from Dr. Bo Torben Porse at UNIVERSITY OF COPENHAGEN. We will use this model to study non-sense mediated RNA decay in chronic liver diseases. We thank Dr. Porse and Dr. Philippe Marambaud from Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell for the help.
October, 2023
Dr. Ruan served as an ad hoc reviewer for NIH Therapeutic Approaches to Genetic Diseases (TAG) Study Section.
September 26, 2023
We received the PTBP1 flox mice from Dr. Wenyan Mei at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. We will use this model to study the role of RNA decay and splicing in hepatic metabolism. Thank you, Dr. Mei!
September 15, 2023
The last day of Ishika in Ruan Lab. As an Intern in Ruan Lab, Ishika helped us to manage the lab inventory, and she worked with Marcos and contributed to our first publication. Ishika will start her new journey at University of Columbia to get her Master Degree in Public Health. Thank you, Ishika.
June 27, 2023
Ruan lab received AHA's Second Century Early Faculty Independence Award! This is the first extramural award for the lab. We thank American Heart Association so much for their support of our research in CRISPR base editing in humanized livers.
